To turn a very steep slope into an easy to tend terraced garden. The customers are very keen gardeners and enjoy gardening but it was impossible being very steep, mostly inaccessible with poor clay soil with nowhere to sit in the sun.
They wanted us to make the most of their space with an informal design as well as a water feature to add sound and movement.
Initially we excavated the garden and removed much subsoil from site with diggers and dumpers. We then built a winding set of steps to gently lead you up the garden with curved stone retaining walls either side to create informal terraces using local walling stone to suit the area. Access paths and a curved patio for enjoying the sun were then laid and the flowerbeds were filled with topsoil and compost.
We then took the customer to our wholesale nursery and chose together a colourful, varied and interesting planting scheme that will soften the stonework. A natural pond was also built with a waterfall trickling in to it to create a relaxing focal point.
The customers now spend lots of time in their garden tending their plants, adding season bedding and vegetables and sitting out in the sun or by their chiminea on the patio.
